W & S keys have stopped working

Hiya,

I have a keyboard issue that has appeared today. While crafting in Midgard the forwards (W) and backwards (S) stopped working. I have tried another keyboard and got the same result, I have also tried the keyboard in notepad and it seems to be just fine. I have also completely uninstalled DAoC from my computer and re-installed it on another hard disk in the computer and it's made no difference.
Have any of you guys come across this before and could possibly help me with this ?

Type /keyboard and make sure that those keys are still bound to move forward and backward. My suspicion is that it is now set to the arrow keys.

There are 3 preconfigured settings and if it switched those it might be more than just those keys, you just haven't seen the other changes yet. One is MMO, one is RPG and I think the third is FPS. These are in a checkbox below the key bindings in that /keyboard setting.

One last thing to check is if you hit enter or /gu and see that those keystrokes are actually coming into game in the chat box. This one is least likely though as they are working in notepad.

Thank you for taking the time to post a reply. I'm afraid that when typing .keyboard as you suggested did not indicate anything unusual as the W & S keys were mapped as they should be also pressing return or /gu did not produce anything unusual,

In the chat box you are able to use the s and w key? If so, then it is definitely a key binding issue. Try changing your movement keys to something else, like the arrow keys and hit save, then bind them back to S and W and if that works, then log out to save the config file.

Lastly, there is a config file that is usually in the c:\users\%username%\appdata\roaming\electronic arts\dark age of camelot\lotm folder called user.dat that you could erase and it will recreate once you log in but all the window settings and hot bars and keybindings will reset.

Hiya,

This is dam silly. All the other mapped keys appear to work just fine apart from whatever key I map for forward and backwards. For instance, I just clear W & S and replaced them with Q & E, nothing! I really don't know what to do now, it's just totally bizarre!

I think it's time to erase your user. DAT file, and maybe time to make sure that that folder is in your exceptions for your antivirus?

Sorry did you mean the LotM folder should be in the antivirus list, how do I do that?

While I've been waiting I installed DAoC on my laptop and fired that up. Lo and behold the same issue is happening there on the laptop!

Go into your antivirus exceptions page and choose your daoc folder as well as c:\users\%username%\appdata\roaming\electronic arts\dark age of camelot\lotm. That will just tell your antivirus to ignore those folders.

And if it's happening on both machines, including a fresh install on a clean machine, then it's either the default setting in /keyboard being set to rpg or both machines have the same antivirus that's blocking changes to that user.dat file. If win10 then check defender and put an exception in there.

After looking in game, try /keyboard and choose the MMO Default button and hit accept. That is the only preconfig that has W and S as the forward and back buttons.

I was encumbered and didn't see the message telling me, I had just finished s run of swords at the forge, what a numpty i am. Thank you for all your help
